Developing the role of the ICT/DCF Coordinator.

The introduction of the DCF in schools has refocused attention on ICT once again. With Estyn now reporting on standards in ICT, the need for strategic, effective leadership and management of this curriculum area is essential. Throughout the day, course attendees will have the opportunity to begin to address these requirements using the NAACE ICT self-review framework (SRF) as a means of self-evaluation and improvement.

  • resourcing
Whilst looking in detail through the above areas, reference will be made to many of the currently, common challenges facing primary schools with regards to ICT and the implementation of the DCF. We will look at: up to date ICT findings from Estyn Inspections, Hwb and ‘cloud technologies’, e-Safety, ICT scheme of work, coding and STEM. This course is aimed at both existing and new primary school ICT/DCF coordinators. Time during the day will also be devoted to each attendee beginning to develop an action plan for ICT for their school.

Course Presenter: Gareth Morgan

DIGITAL COMPETENCE and DCF - Gareth's primary school teaching career began in 1996, then in 2003 he joined Newport LA as ICT curriculum improvement adviser. For over 15 years Gareth Morgan has worked across Wales providing advice, support and training in the use of ICT as a curriculum subject, and also in its effective use across the curriculum to schools. He has an MSc in eLearning and is an ICT Mark assessor for NAACE. Gareth was also previously employed by the Welsh Government as their ICT subject adviser, where he worked closely on what it means for pupils to be digital competent. He was a past member of the National Digital Learning Council (NDLC), a body which provides advice to the Welsh Government on the use of technology to support learning and teaching, and also part of the group that produced the influential, "Find it, make it, use it, share it: learning in digital Wales" report. Gareth Morgan has a strong interest in the effective use of 'cloud technologies' such as G Suite for Education and is a Google for Education accredited trainer.
