LIVE ONLINE: NEW Unpicking Literature Fires the Imagination!
Helping Pupils to Write Engaging Stories
The AoLLC celebrates reading and sharing stories; it asks pupils to engage with narratives and to explore their imaginations. It values pupils’ creativity and encourages them to express themselves artistically. Story writing can help pupils to make sense of the world around them and to develop their own unique writing voice.
This course shows you how to create confident story tellers, who express their unique voice by using language artistically and purposefully.
Story writing always provides teachers with rich opportunities to develop pupils’ vocabulary and ability to use figurative and descriptive language. When learning to write compelling narratives, pupils can explore different sentence structures and play with words – they have a license to experiment as they have imaginative freedom.
The format of training session will be somewhat different as we will be ‘meeting’ live, but on screen. The training will be for a small group so that we can be interactive. The day will be chunked into a series of bitesize pieces and will include tasks for reflection as well as discussion and collaboration.
- Help pupils to write creatively by looking at story elements, characterization and scene setting.
- Provide tools to help pupils to plan and write compelling fiction.
- Discuss ways to use story writing to teach pupils to write interesting and varied sentences, use literary techniques and select strong words.
- Explore ways to teach pupils to experiment with genre and form.
