Financial Literacy in KS2 – SOUTH WALES (Cardiff)
According to the latest Estyn report Managing Money (July 2017) “not all teachers have the knowledge and skills to help them deliver financial education confidently”
In an increasingly complex financial world, it is important that we develop pupils’ financial capability from an early age to equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to manage money well and to prepare them for the opportunities and challenges that money brings to their lives.
This course will support teachers in identifying opportunities to plan and deliver financial education, as well as advise on a wealth of teaching resources.
- how financial education can be made real and relevant to pupils
- where financial education most effectively fits in the school curriculum in Wales including reference to Professor Graham Donaldson’s review of curriculum and assessment ‘Successful Futures’ (2015)
- progression of activities for money calculations linked to the 'manage money' strand of the Literacy and Numeracy Framework (LNF) but also a wider awareness of financial issues
- practical, real life ideas for actively engaging learners in financial education in a variety of contexts
- using real life contexts to develop an understanding of financial vocabulary, decision making and financial planning
- key resources to support the delivery of financial education further
