A Routine for Nurture is an exciting collaboration between two of our consultants Angela Coates and David Powell.  This is a detailed daily outline of the structure of a Foundation Phase nurture setting.  Angela’s ‘golden nuggets’ of nurture are presented concisely in 8 videos.  These insights into ‘nurture’ ethos and pedagogy combine with 8 warm and sensitive original songs for infants around which you can base your day.

Angela Coates

EARLY YEARS / WELLBEING - Angela Coates is an Independent Educational Consultant and part time Teacher with over fifteen years of experience working in the early years and primary setting. Angela has spent the last eight years in the Nurture Unit where she developed a reputation for successfully managing the most challenging classes. Angela Coates' role as a part of running the Nurture unit includes advisory work for Mainstream Schools. Pupils in her care attend both settings. Therefore, she has experience of overseeing the fusion of Nurture and Mainstream classes. Angela continues to work as a classroom practitioner 2 days a week but now she runs training courses for schools/parents/educational bodies etc. This allows her to keep her finger on the pulse and remain up to date with current working practice. Angela’s main degree was in Language and Communication, She is an NGN (Now Nurture UK) qualified Nurture Teacher and level 3 OCN Forest School practitioner. Angela is passionate about Nurture and continues to support and guide teachers in the Mainstream and Special Educational settings to successfully deliver the Nurture Curriculum. Search for Courses

David Powell; Upbeat Music and Arts

MUSIC - David Powell studied percussion and drum kit at Leeds College of Music followed by a post graduate course at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies, Goldsmith’s College London. On leaving college, David Powell joined the critically acclaimed 50’s R & B band ‘The Big Town Playboys’ touring Britain and Europe and performing alongside Fleetwood Mac and Eric Clapton. His teaching career started as an LA peripatetic teacher in 1989 which led to primary classroom teaching before joining the Gwent Music Service as Assistant Head in 2000. After a very productive and successful period in this role, David realised his passion for inclusivity and access by forming ‘Upbeat Music and Arts’ in 2013 to provide projects, workshops and regular tuition for whole classes of children focussing on high class delivery whilst not losing sight of educating the whole child.  Upbeat has a team possessing a wealth of talented and experienced teachers and facilitators and is developing a portfolio that inspires, invigorates and challenges pupils.  Upbeat has built a reputation for excellent quality, child centred delivery through their constantly evolving portfolio viewable at www.upbeatmusicandarts.co.uk/what-we-do  Our Partners  Search for Courses
