MATHEMATICS and NUMERACY – Debbie Henry has worked in primary education for 30 years as a teacher, senior leader and adviser, with extensive experience in the Foundation Phase and early years. Debbie became a member of the Newport Numeracy Team in 2008 before being appointed as Primary Adviser for Numeracy in the EAS in 2012. She has supported head teachers and other senior leaders in schools in assuring quality provision for mathematics and numeracy and has delivered extensive mathematics training for teachers in the Foundation Phase. She has several years’ experience of lecturing students at UWN and has been an Estyn Team Inspector.
Debbie is passionate about inspiring teachers to promote a love and fascination for mathematics in young children. She believes that children learn through practical experiences, rich and engaging contexts and opportunities to explore using a range of resources. In addition to mathematics, Debbie has a keen interest in the creative arts and has collaborated with several artists on various projects in primary schools. She is currently drawing on her background in the arts to develop a range of mathematics resources for teachers.
